Wheel Throwing Taster

Course Description

Ideal for beginners, in this one hour taster session you will learn the basics of wheel throwing: clay prep, centring and forming. You will be guided step by step to help you produce your own bowl, which will then be fired and glazed for you. Any further pieces made in the session can be fired and glazed for an extra £5 each. Please note, I only have one wheel so this session is not suitable for groups, although the hour can be shared between two. This would be £60 for two sharing and can be added whilst you checkout. Your bowl will be ready approx 3-4 weeks after the session. If you have any questions please check FAQ's or get in touch with me directly. £50 per person or £60 total if sharing the hour with one other person.

Important information

Practical info: Throwing is messy, so please bring an apron or wear old clothes. Please note: I do not have spare aprons available. Also, be aware that using the potter’s wheel is significantly more difficult with long nails, as the process requires fingertip contact. Long nails can act like “corkscrews” in the clay, which may hinder your success with this technique. Aside from an apron, all materials are provided. After the Session: Your work will be fired twice: first a bisque firing, followed by a final glaze firing. The clay must be “bone dry” before entering the kiln, and the kiln must be full for each cycle. Generally, your work will be ready for collection within three to four weeks. However, please understand that factors beyond my control (such as cold weather, kiln maintenance, or waiting for a full load) may extend this timeframe. I will contact you as soon as your work is ready to collect. Important note on breakages: While it doesn’t happen often, I cannot guarantee that work won’t crack during the drying process or inside the kiln. This is an inherent risk of pottery that can affect beginners and experts alike. I cannot offer refunds for work that breaks in the kiln or is damaged while awaiting collection. Collection: All finished work must be collected within two weeks of receiving your “ready for collection” email. Due to very limited storage space and the risk of damage on busy shelves, I cannot hold items beyond this period.
